Rimorso is the body’s attempt to free itself from organic and emotional toxicity through a form of music-induced trance. By compulsively repeating the same gestures, the individual presence is urged to leave the physical body to eventually come back and establish new ways of enhabiting it.
The act refers to the Southern Italian phenomenon of Tarantism, a form of possession supposedly caused by the bite of the tarantula spider. It would cause psychotic symptoms and was cured through a dance-based exorcism aimed to purge the spider’s venom and to re-integrate the (conscious) presence within the physical body (1).
The psychic and the organic dimensions of illness -and of the body more in general- are here intertwined, contributing to define healing as a multidimensional, non-linear, and quite unpredictable process.
